LAB NOTE 01 / Fatty acids
An oil is more than its name.
Why composition matters when choosing a formulation lipid.
Why study fatty acids in skincare?
Start with composition.
Two oils can look similar and behave differently. Their lipid composition, processing and the condition of the skin all matter. This is the question at the centre of Sushenah’s BCS approach.
What a human study found.
In a small adult forearm study, repeated olive-oil application reduced stratum-corneum integrity and caused mild redness. Sunflower oil preserved integrity and improved hydration in the study setting. “Natural oil” is therefore not a uniform category of benefit.
What Sushenah takes from it.
This study supports asking better formulation questions. It does not prove the effectiveness of BCS, identify a universal ideal blend or demonstrate delivery to deep skin layers. Sushenah’s contribution is a formulation-design philosophy that still requires product-specific testing.
